Hello All!
I've been using GTK+ for some time now, I'm designing a user interface that is cross platform (Linux/Windows). I use the MingW build system with MSYS under windows with codeblocks as an IDE, and I use CB under Linux as well. I also have the Mingw cross-compiler setup under Linux. Ok my issue is that I cannot get the theme engines to work correctly under Windows. I use the GTK 2.18.5 dev files from the GTK-W32 site (precompiled) to link to. Under Linux I use the latest from Ubuntu repos which I think is like at 2.18.4 maybe not sure but everything works without probloems under Linux of course. Anyhow, I need not change any code at this point to portably compile betwen Linux and Windows which is lovely. I've been trying to find information about the theme issues with little success. Am I missing something, is there a tutorial or hint on what to do to get it working right, I'm tired of the ugliness of the MS-Windows theme, and don't wanna have to go back to 2.16 either. Any hints or suggestions? Should I try the latest unstable maybe?
Thanks |

Hello and welcome to the GTK+ forums.
You'll need to download some precompiled theme engines. They are available from Alexander Shaduri's gtk-win project. PLace those engines into your GTK+ installation path under lib/gtk-2.0/2.10.0/engines, supply proper gtkrc file for selected theme ad you're off.
It's been a while since last time I did this, so my instructions may not be 100% correct (I really don't remember what the contents of the engine archive is), but I think you should be able to figure out some details yourself.

| I went to use the engines package and it works great, thanks. I have been trying with the wrong theme packages before, that's why it did not work. |
